The Nether Update added a lot of new content to the nether dimenion including 6 new mobs, while also removing the zombie pigman that had been in the game since it's initial release. Zombified piglins replaced pigmen and work the same way rushing the player if attacked. Hoglins, brutes and zoglins create a nether ecosystem amongst the new nether biomes. The strider was added as a lava proof mob so players could explore the nether in relative saftey.
